Insurance

Insurance for the things you store.

How to be covered

  1. Your own insurer

Extend your home contents policy or take storage cover, and give us the certificate.

Your things stay yours and at your risk, so we ask you to insure them for their full value with your own insurer. We accept your insurer's certificate, and our liability is limited to AED 5,000 per unit.

  • Risk and insurance stay with you under the agreement
  • Your own insurer's certificate is accepted
  • Green Sky's own insurance doesn't cover your things
  • Green Sky's liability is limited to AED 5,000 per unit

Third-party insurance

Insure your things with your own insurer.

The usual way: a policy in your name, from any insurer, for the things in your room.

What to ask your insurer for

  • Extend your home contents policy to goods in a self-storage room, or take a separate policy for the months you store.
  • Cover against fire, theft, water damage and other storage risks, for the full value of what you store.
  • A certificate or endorsement that names the insurer, the policy number, the dates it's valid, and that it covers goods in storage.
  • Our site's address on it, if the insurer asks where the goods are kept.

What we need from you

  • The certificate: send it on WhatsApp or hand it in at the desk, and we keep it on your file.
  • It must still be valid on your move-in day; our team checks it.
  • Renew it before it runs out, and send us the new dates.

How much

How much cover do you need?

  • Add up what it would cost to replace everything in the room today, not what you paid for it.
  • Make a list as you pack, box by box, with photos of anything valuable. Keep it with your agreement.
  • Keep receipts or photos for expensive items; an insurer asks for them in a claim.
  • Ask what the policy leaves out: cash, jewellery and documents often are, unless you add them.
  • Update the cover when you add things to the room, or when their value changes.

The agreement

What our storage agreement says

In plain words; the full agreement is shown before you sign it online, and the signed copy is sent to you.

  • Your things stay at your risk while in storage. Insurance is yours to arrange, and we advise full-value cover against theft, fire, water damage and other storage risks.
  • Green Sky's liability for loss or damage is limited to AED 5,000 per unit, and neither side is liable for loss of profit or indirect loss.
  • You lock your room with your own lock and keep the key; access codes and cards stay private.
  • You decide who may come to your room: you, and the people you authorise in writing, during opening hours.
  • Nothing prohibited in the room: no food, flammable or hazardous goods, living things or anything illegal. It puts other customers' things at risk too.

If something happens

If something goes wrong

  • Tell us the same day, on WhatsApp or at the desk, and photograph everything before you move it.
  • Your claim goes to your insurer under your policy.
  • Whatever your insurer asks about your tenancy, ask us: the agreement, the dates and your invoices are also in your customer portal.

Are my things insured while they're in storage?

Your things stay yours and at your risk, so we ask you to insure them for their full value with your own insurer. We accept your insurer's certificate, and our liability is limited to AED 5,000 per unit.

Doesn't Green Sky's own insurance cover my things?

No. Any insurance Green Sky holds is for our buildings and equipment, not for customers' goods. Your things are covered only by your own policy.

Do I have to have insurance to book?

No. It's your choice, and we advise it: under our agreement the risk stays with you. Insure your things with your own insurer and give us the certificate for your file.

Can I use my home contents insurance?

Often, yes. Ask your insurer to extend your home contents policy to goods in a self-storage room, and get it in writing: a certificate or endorsement with the policy number and the dates it's valid.

What should the certificate show?

The insurance company, the policy number, the dates it's valid and that it covers goods in storage. It must still be valid on your move-in day; our team checks it.

How much cover do I need?

What it would cost to replace everything in the room today. Make a list as you pack and add it up, and update the cover when you add things.

Who pays if there's a fire, a theft or water damage?

Your insurer, under your policy. Under our agreement the risk stays with you, and our liability is limited to AED 5,000 per unit.
